Go Carz drivers spreading Christmas cheer to the homeless
Two of our drivers in Shropshire are spreading Christmas cheer by distributing food and blankets to homeless people in Shrewsbury and Telford.
Andre Nicholls and Ivor Jones came up with the idea after seeing people sleeping on the streets while driving their taxis late at night.
They asked their manager at Go Carz if they could use the firm’s minibus to distribute food and blankets, and have been delivering their goods to people in the days leading up to Christmas.
Food has been donated by McDonald’s and Greggs, blankets have been supplied by Veolia, Go Outdoors in Shrewsbury has donated survival kits and hand warmers, and B&Q has donated duvets.
Andre and Ivor have been making their deliveries in the centre of Shrewsbury and Wellington on several nights during the two weeks before Christmas.
Chloe Edwards, marketing assistant at Go Carz, says: “We were delighted to help when the drivers approached us about using the minibus to deliver food and blankets to the homeless.
“Christmas must be an incredibly difficult time of year for people living on the streets and we are happy to do anything we can to help.
“Andre and Ivor came up with the idea themselves and are giving up their own time to do this and it’s lovely to see.
“We want to say a big thank you to staff at McDonald’s, Greggs, Veolia, Go Outdoors and B&Q for their kind donations of food, blankets and other goods which will really make a big difference to people’s lives.”
Ivor Jones, who has been driving for Go Carz for two years, added: “As taxi drivers, we feel very much part of the community and we see the difficulties these people have living on the streets.
“We just thought it must be so hard for homeless people, especially at this time of year, so we wanted to do something to help.”
Well done Ivor and Andre!
